How to be a Sustainable Student Pt. 5

  •  Carpooling/Biking/Walking/Public Transportation

Carpooling is one of the best ways you can do to help the environment.

It…

  • Reduces Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions which helps slow down global warming
  • Reduces the amount of smog, which helps out people who have asthma and other air pollution-related health problems
  • Reduces costs that are put towards the construction of new roads and road maintenance because there will be fewer cars driving on them
  • Improves the air quality

Besides those great environmental benefits, it can also save you gas money and brings the community together. Especially when there are large gatherings and events, definitely chip in whenever there is a carpool opportunity.

Another way to help reduce a lot of the carbon dioxide pollution is by biking or/and walking to your destinations. This also gives you the chance to enjoy your surroundings and complete a healthy exercise.

Finally, there’s public transportation that you can use to your advantage if you want to help reduce the number of cars on the roads and greenhouse gas emissions in the air. However, I know that some people would try their best to avoid public transportation as much as possible (me included). So whatever works for you and it also helps the environment then, by all means, do that. What’s important is helping our planet but also making sure that we can do our part without feeling too uncomfortable or forced into it.

Most importantly, know that we aren’t perfect and we all make mistakes. But you can change that by starting now and incorporating these eco-friendly products and choices into our lives to reduce more harm to our environment. Furthermore, educate and raise awareness to those around you about the impact they make with their daily choices and how they can change it for the better. But don’t blame them, try to inspire and inform them to join you on our mission in making this a healthier and greener earth to live in.
